UNZA Guide to Medical Resources

Welcome to the Guide

Searching for information on the Internet can be time consuming and frustrating. The Guide to Medical Resources is designed to locate useful medical information quickly and efficiently. The Guide has brief annotations and links to selected www health sites, electronic journals and directories as well as Internet search engines. The primary objective of this web site is to assist users from developing countries in accessing relevant medical information from the Internet. A second objective is to disseminate information from the health care community in Zambia to those on the Internet.

During the initial phase of the website development, we concentrated on the organization of links to medical information on the World Wide Web. Our goal was to fill the information gap of the UNZA Medical Library and its users. During the second phase, we continued to add links to external sites and also began to include Zambian health related information. We now understand the value of this project as a means of fostering two way communication on the Internet.

Lenny Rhine, University of Florida Health Science Center Library, initiated this project as part of his sabbatical in 1996/97. He was assisted by the staff of the University of Zambia Medical Library. Thanks to Norah Mumba, Kettiwe Shani, and Abigail Phiri for their acquisition and input of Zambian medical information. Thanks to Kenneth Chanda for his work on developing the Medical Phrases section. Thanks to Rick Lockwood, University of Florida, for java script and other enchancements to the latest version.

The website is editied and upgraded on a weekly basis. We continually add new links and deleted or change faulty ones plus attempt to upgrade the organization and aesthetic design of the website.

How to use the Guide

The Table of Contents page of the Guide contains a table consisting of seven categories (A-Z Site Index, Health Indexs Full Text Documents, Interneet Directories, Health in Zambia, Zambian Health Institutions and Other). The "Other" category contains a link to an alphabetical Index of all sites in the Guide.

Each category contains a cluster hypertext links to related subjects. The links are a blue font and are underlined. By clicking on a related subject link, you will proceed to a list of annotated hypertext links. Within the specific subject page, you will find links to numerous WWW sites outside of this website plus some fulltext documents within the Guide. If you leave the Guide to another site and wish to return, click on the "Back" buttom that usually is located at the top of your Internet browser.

For navigation within a page, place the mouse on the right hand bar to scroll up and down each page or use the scroll down or up buttons on your keyboard. To click on a hypertext link within a page, use the mouse to place the curser on the specific link. Then click using the top left box of the mouse. Use the navigational links at the bottom of each page to move around the various pages.

To view a list of all the sites, click on the Index from the Table of Contents page. From the Index, click on the site of interest within the Guide. Then click on the link to the specific Internet site.
