OBJECTIVES  

The Society has a collaborative approach to academic publishing offering many contributions to successful academic careers. These include:

·   Establishing an organizational framework that creates an academic culture where academic publishing is valued, supports young scholars to embrace a culture of publications, and provides an opportunity for those who want to support a culture of academic publication.

·   Establishing an organizational framework in which each member can receive a highly personalized academic publication support.

·   Members starting to publish more regularly and as such increase their prospects of successful academic careers.

·   Members building their capacity for scholarly writing, critique, and in grant or research proposal writing.

·   Members having opportunities to expose their work to collaborative critique and development.

·   Members have opportunities to participate in academic activities and thus fostering an academic culture.

·   Members having opportunities to meet other academic staff in collaborative efforts and increase their professional networks within the University.

·   Members having access to academic networks of members of the society and those developed by the Society.

·   Members creating mentorship relations within the Society.

·   Members having access to resources, grants and project support from the Society.

·   Members developing capacity to academically mentor new entrants to academic ranks.

·   Members developing a sense of belonging to an academic society with like-minded academicians pursuing the common goal of getting published in indexed peer-reviewed national, regional, and international journals.

Benefits to the University of Zambia

·   An organised framework that can provide academic support exists within the University.

·   Volume of academic publications by University staff increases thus improving the visibility and profile of the University internationally.

·   More academic staff achieve fulfilled academic careers contributing to lower staff turnover.

·   An additional avenue is available for senior academics to provide academic leadership.

 

Definitions: 

Council – The principal governing body of the society. 

Executive Committee – Members of the Council, consisting of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Society Secretary, Programmes Secretary, and the Membership Committee Chairperson. 

Full Member – A member with voting rights and eligibility to hold elected office. 

Special Member – A member without voting rights and who cannot hold elected office. 
Foundation 50 Academic Society is a voluntary, non -profit society based at the University of Zambia, Lusaka
